The medieval village of Vertine is a subdivision of Gaiole in Chianti, in the Province of Siena, at the north-east limit of the Chianti region. The village is situated just below the mountainous ridge bounding the upper Valdarno Valley.
Situated in the heart of Chianti and surrounded by woods, olive groves and vineyards, this is the ideal starting point for setting out on foot or by bicycle to explore the surrounding territory. The region offers many visits to Chianti classico wineries and specialty food producers. Vertine is part of the historic territory of the League of Chianti.
The feudal village is protected by its original defensive walls, and still serves as a “strategic” starting point for visits to the other fortified towns and castles of the territory.
